E Iñárritu lo ha vuelto a hacer. Un año después que Birdman dominara las nominaciones, su nuevo drama, The Revenant, ha acumulado un total de doce, convirtiéndose así en su película que más menciones ha recibido por la Academia. Entre ellas, además de las más obvias como Mejor Película, Mejor Cinematografía y Mejor Director, podemos encontrar a Leonardo DiCaprio y a Tom Hardy nominados por sus trabajos actorales en el film.
En cuanto a nominaciones, a The Revenant le sigue Mad Max: Fury Road, la cual como habíamos previsto, consta en las categorías de Mejor Película y Mejor Director. Sin embargo, exceptuando lo anticipado, el anuncio de la Academia trajo consigo varias sorpresas, como ver a a Sicario ignorada en casi todas las categorías y a Carol fuera de las ocho películas nominadas.
