La Academia de Ciencias y Artes anunció esta mañana las nominadas de la nonagésima edición del Oscar y, como se había previsto, la nueva película de Guillermo del Toro, The Shape of Water, fue la que recibió más nominaciones. 13 en total son la que acumula este film de fantasía sobre la relación entre una conserje muda — interpretada por Sally Hawkins –  y una criatura desconocida de laboratorio.

Detrás de The Shape of Water encontramos a Dunkirk de Christopher Nolan y Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri de Martin McDonagh con 8 y 7 nominaciones, respectivamente.

Quizás, este año la sorpresa más grande viene de mano de Get Out. La película de horror con tintes cómicos obtuvo 4 nominaciones, entre las que se encuentran sorprendentemente las de Mejor Película, Mejor Director para Jordan Peele, Mejor Actor Principal para Daniel Kaluuya (se cree que las acusaciones de acoso sexual contra James Franco hicieron que éste perdiera su cupo — el que ocupa Kaluuya — por su trabajo en The Disaster Artist) y Mejor Guión Original.

En lo que probablemente es el hito más grande dentro del marco del género de superhéroes desde la nominación de Heath Ledger a Mejor Actor de Reparto por The Dark Knight hace una década, Logan, inspirada en el arco Old Man Logan, fue nominada a Mejor Guión Adaptado.

Mudbound, de Netflix, se convirtió en la película más nominada de la gigante del streaming con un total de 4 menciones. Su directora de foto, Rachel Morrison, es la primera mujer en ser nominada dentro de la categoría de cinematografía.

Meryl Streep continúa expandiendo su récord (esta vez de la mano de Steven Spielberg con The Post) como la actriz más nominada de la historia. Ahora posee un total de  21.
