Por si La La Land, el nuevo musical dramático del director Damien Chazelle (Whiplash), no fuera de por sí la candidata más fuerte en ruta al Oscar, su arrasador paso por los Critic’s Choice Awards la noche del Domingo terminó reafirmándolo. De sus doce nominaciones, la película se hizo de ocho premios.
Además de consagrarse como Mejor Película, el musical se adjudicó los reconocimientos de Mejor Director, Mejor Guión Original (compartido con Manchester by the Sea), Mejor Fotografía, Mejor Montaje, Mejor Dirección de Arte, Mejor Música y Mejor Canción por “City of Stars“. Exceptuando las categorías actorales, las cuales ya parecen tener dueño (Cassey Affleck se llevó el premio a Mejor Actor por Manchester by the Sea mientras que Natalie Portman el de Mejor Actriz por Jackie), La La Land se perfila a nivel técnico como la Mad Max: Fury Road para esta temporada de premios.
Moonlight
En las categorías actorales secundarias, las cuales parecen resueltas, Mahershala Ali una vez más fue nombrado Mejor Actor de Reparto por Moonlight, mientras que Viola Davis lo hizo por Fences de Denzel Washington.
En otras categorías, Arrival fue nombrada Mejor Película de Ciencia Ficción, Elle (Francia) de Paul Verhoeven Mejor Película Extranjera, Hacksaw Ridge Mejor Película de Acción, Zootopia Mejor Animación y Deadpool Mejor Comedia.
